It was tricks and treats at the weekend box office, as Universal and Blumhouse held on to the number one spot with Halloween scooping up $31.4 million in its second session - a 59% drop from its debut. Halloween has now brought in $126 million domestically in ten days, and another $45.6 million overseas for a worldwide total of about $172 million.

Warner Bros.'s A Star is Born continues to stand and deliver, slipping just 26% for a weekend total of $14 million and a new domestic cume of about $149 million. Internationally, A Star Is Born added another $18 million from 75 markets for a global total of over $250 million.

There were no treats for Lionsgate's new submarine actioner Hunter Killer, which sank to the bottom of pre-release estimates, torpedoing $6.7 million from 2,720 screens. The Gerard Butler film did manage an A- CinemaScore from opening day audiences, but will have a difficult time staying afloat under a barrage of upcoming releases.

PageBreaks Take: The holiday box office season starts in earnest next week, with Fox's Bohemian Rhapsody and Disney's Nutcracker both opening on 3,800 screens. Also hitting theatres, Paramount's Nobody's Fool will look to counter program on about 2,400 screens.
