Disney and Marvel's Black Panther took no prisoners over the weekend box office, easily besting studio mate A Winkle in Time to stay number one for the fourth straight week. Black Panther added about $41 million to its superhero coffers, bringing its domestic cume to an amazing $562 million. The mega-hit passed the $1 billion mark internationally, the fifth Marvel movie to reach that coveted plateau.

In a distant, and very disappointing, second, A Wrinkle In Time debuted with an estimated $33 million on close to 4,000 screens. The Oprah starring adaptation of the beloved award-winning novel failed to live up to even the lowest estimates, and with a 42% Rotten Tomatoes score and a "B" CinemaScore, this big budget tent-pole is likely to fade fast in the face of a crowded slate of new releases.

In other debut news, Aviron's The Strangers: Prey at Night opened in in third place with an estimated $10 million, while Entertainment Studios' The Hurricane Heist failed to create much headwind, finishing with just $3 million on 2,400 screens.

PageBreaks Take: Yet another lesson on "sure things" from Hollywood. A best-selling classic, a Disney release, and an Oprah production - that's about as close to a slam-dunk as you can imagine. A Wrinkle In Time illustrates once again the one key ingredient major studios continuously forget - the movie needs to be good.
