Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was able to hang on to the weekend's top spot at the box office, besting three new wide releases over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. With an estimated 4-day total of $35 million, Jumanji has shown remarkable staying power, pushing its domestic cume to about $291 million. Internationally, the film opened in China with an outstanding $40 million, bringing its worldwide cume to a still growing $667 million.

Finishing in second, Fox's expansion of Steven Spielberg's The Post, brought in $23 million in wide release. Delivering a third place finish, Lionsgate's The Commuter debuted to $16 million. The film received an okay "B" CinemaScore from audiences. In fourth, The Greatest Showman, continued to hold strong with a 4-day total of $15.6 million, and a total cume to-date of nearly $100 million. After a slow start, The Greatest Showman is singing and dancing its way to a solid domestic run.

Disney's Star Wars: The Last Jedi dipped to fifth place, conjuring another $15 million for a domestic total just shy of $600 million. The film has now climbed into 6th all time (not adjusted) domestically and sits 10th worldwide all time. In addition, Star Wars: The Last Jedi officially passed Beauty and the Beast to become the highest grossing film both domestically and internationally of 2017.

In sixth, WB's release of the critically acclaimed Paddington 2 opened on the soft side with about $15 million. Word of mouth will be strong for this film, but it may be an uphill battle for the family friendly animated bear.

PageBreaks Take: As predicted, the box office will largely tread water until the release of Marvel's much anticipated Black Panther.
