In response to dwindling viewership, and dwindling attention spans, the future of television advertising may be the six-second ad. Fox Sports announced that it will air nine, six-second ads during its Thanksgiving Day telecast of the NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions. The mini-spots, which will feature promos for AMC's The Walking Dead, will be “incorporated into natural breaks in the flow of the game,” Fox explained, and the ads will appear in a double-box format that allows viewers to continue to follow the action while the spots are playing.
Pagebreaks Take: As a weapon against DVR's and the dreaded fast-forward button, broadcasters will continue to find ways to get commercial messages onto the screen during programming.
