Universal and Blumhouse enjoyed another solid horror film debut, with Happy Death Day bringing in $26 million over the weekend to take the number one spot at the box office. The film follows on the heels of other recent Blumhouse successes like The Visit, Split and Get Out. Happy Death Day scored a "B" CinemaScore from opening day audiences, of which 63% were under the age of 25.

In second place, WB's Blade Runner 2049 dropped a reasonable 53% in its second weekend, adding $15.5 million for a ten day total of $61 million. Internationally, Blade Runner has brought in just under $100 million, with China and Japan set to open on October 27th. As mentioned in previous posts, the real issue with this movie is the $150 million production budget, which has ballooned expectations, and, fairly or not, permanently imprinted the label "bomb" onto the masthead of this critically acclaimed sci-fi art piece.

Coming in third, Jackie Chan's latest U.S. entry, The Foreigner opened with $13 million on just 2,500 screens. The film scored a solid "A-" CinemaScore, and with an international tally of $88.4 million, The Foreigner has now topped $100 million worldwide on just a $35 million budget.

Speaking of profits, WB and New Line's It held on for fourth position, bringing in another $6 million for a monstrous domestic cume of $315 million. With $10.4 million added internationally, It has a worldwide tally of over $630 million.

PageBreaks Take: We now hit the calm before the storm, as a line of mega-releases are set to open over the coming weeks. First up, Thor: Ragnorak hits theaters on November 3rd, followed by Justice League on November 17th.
