Fox's Kingsman: The Golden Circle proved that it was not clowning around, finally pushing Pennywise and WB's It to second place after two dominating weeks at No. 1. Kingsman 2 brought in $39 million, slightly below expectations, but an improvement on the $36 million delivered by the first Kingsman installment. It, meanwhile, scared up another $30 million to balloon it's cume to a record-shattering $266 million. Internationally, It has amassed an eye-popping $478 million, with a number of territories still to come.
In third place, WB's The Lego Ninjago Movie fell short of many predictions, but still pieced together $20 million. Considering this was the second Lego film of the year, and Ninjago was clearly targeting youngsters familiar with the toy line, the result was solid enough for the profitable WB franchise. On holdover news, American Assassins dropped an okay 58% to $6 million for a two-week cume of $26 million. And in limited release, Oscar hopeful, Battle of the Sexes, served up a decent $515,000 on 21 screens. The film will widen to about 1,200 screens next weekend.
PageBreaks Take: Next up on the release schedule, Tom Cruise and Universal will bring American Made to theaters on September 29th along with Sony's remake of the 1990 hit Flatliners. Look for Kingsman to eke out a slim victory with the newcomers battling It for a close second.
