The August box office took another knockout blow this weekend, succumbing to the power of the Mayweather v. McGregor fight, as well as the wall-to-wall coverage of Hurricane Harvey. The top twelve films totaled under $50 million, which is the worst since September 2001. Someone had to come in first, and this week it was The Hitman's Bodyguard, which added a paltry $10 million for a ten-day cume of $40 million. In second, WB's Annabelle: Creation brought in $7.7 million to bring its total to $78 million domestically. On a rosier note, Warner's Wonder Woman added 1,407 screens and grossed an additional $1.7 million for a domestic total of $406 million. Wonder Woman also topped $400 million internationally this weekend, thanks to an estimated $3.4 million opening in Japan.
