This may be the first and last time Floyd Mayweather and Taylor Swift share a headline, but each dropped a bomb on their unsuspecting fans over the weekend. Mayweather dipped and duped through his fight with Conor McGregor, keeping the bout alive just long enough to prevent any chance of a rebate. It was clear that the Mayweather camp had pre-identified the tenth round as logical place to end the farce, and so with little effort, Floyd produced a TKO that kept both fighters obscenely rich and physically unscathed. Already, the gullible public is praising McGregor's resilience, amazingly unaware that Mayweather could have just as easily ended the fight in the first round. No confirmation yet on whether "Money" Mayweather will next take on Donald Trump in a fight to the death showdown on Twitter.
Not to be outdone, Taylor Swift released her new single, Look What You Made Me Do, and apparently everyone did look. The song has already supplanted Despacito on the charts, garnering over 36 million views on YouTube alone. While the lyrics claim to be a reinvention of the pop icon's music, the tune is anything but, sounding uninspired and derivative, provoking little more than feigned outrage from music critic Kim Kardashian. Swift's next release, Can't Touch This will cost $1 on iTunes.
PageBreaks Take: To be clear, there is nothing wrong with mindless entertainment, and caveat emptor always applies in boxing as well as music.
