For 27 years, Steve Whitmire has been the voice, and hands, behind the most famous frog on television. Whitmire, who joined the Muppets in 1978, took over the voice of Kermit after the death of creator Jim Henson in 1990. Aside from Kermit, Whitmire also played Bert's best friend Ernie, Rizzo the Rat, and Beaker, among others. Taking over for Whitmire will be Matt Vogel, who has played several Muppet characters himself, including The Count, Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Robin the Frog, Lew Zealand, Crazy Harry, Uncle Deadly, Pops, Dr. Julius Strangepork, and Camilla. In 2014, Vogel played Constantine, Number One Criminal and World’s Most Dangerous Frog, in the movie Muppets Most Wanted.
