Spider-Man: Homecoming cast a web over its competition, delivering a fantastic $117 million over the Fri-Sun weekend. The result is the second largest Spider-Man opening ever, just beating the 2002 original, but well short of the $151 million taken in by Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 3 in 2007. Spider-Man's opening was also the third largest of the year, finishing behind the $146.5 million opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the opening of Beauty and the Beast, which bowed to a massive $175 million back in March. For the weekend, second place belongs to Universal's Despicable Me 3, which finished with a little under $34 million and a total-to-date of about $150 million.
Wonder Woman continued its leggy run, with another $9.8 million over the weekend and a Marvel-ous domestic cume of $368 million. It now looks as though Wonder Woman will catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become the most successful launch of the 2017 summer season.
