Baby Driver Races To $5.7 Million Opening Day

Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver made off with $5.7 million on Wednesday, including $2.1 million from Tuesday night previews. The R-rated thriller, starring Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx, opened ahead of the Independence Day weekend, getting a jump on Despicable Me 3 and The House, which open on Friday. Sony is projecting between $15-$20 million for Baby Driver by the end of its first weekend - a strong start for a film that cost a reported $34 million to make. Baby Driver enjoys a 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences have given the film a strong A- CinemaScore.
